HC1602 HD/SD CODECA software upgradable hardware-based CODEC engine.With over two and a half years of CODEC development and advance processing optimization, the Ambrado™ HC1602 meets the rigid broadcast industry quality requirements for high definition video processing. This high powered HD CODEC solutions delivers studio image quality at data rates up to 100 Mbps while consuming very little power - less than 18 watts! Running highly optimized compression technology developed by Ambrado allows the HC1602 to utilize a single digital signal processor by harnessing 15 times processing power. This flexible platform can easily be customized and integrated into a variety of products from HD studio cameras to broadcast video servers. With its low power consumption and extreme low latency capability (150ms), the HC1602 is perfect for battery-powered operation in mobile solutions for applications such as Electronic News Gathering or mobile surveillance and situation assessment applications. The HC1602 easily switches between encode and decode of high-definition and standard definition MPEG-2 and will soon add H.264 support. When functioning in encode mode, the HC1604 will ingest HD resolutions of 1080i and 720p. For standard definition inputs, the HC1602 accepts 480i, 512i, 576i, and 608i video formats. The HC1602 encodes to 1080i and 720p MPEG-2 HD in I-frame only at 100 Mbps and MPEG-2 HD Long-GOP at 50 Mbps while preserving 8 bits per pixel depth at 4:2:2 chroma format. Both HD and SD output can be multiplexed with pass-through PCM audio (SMPTE302) into Transport Streams by the HC1602 for delivery over transmission networks. The HC 1602 can also can output the audio and video as Elementary Streams directly to the host system enabling a broad range of digital video applications. In decode mode, the HC1602 can ingest MPEG-2 Elementary and Transport Streams and supports decoding any format supported in encode mode. |

Host interface is provided via standard PCI over a 400-pin connector located on the back of the HD 1602. Fully upgradable and future-safe.The HC1602 software upgradable feature provides a future-safe solution that can advance as CODEC algorithms are optimized and performance-enhanced. Ambrado is currently developing new CODEC support for delivery near term. These new CODECs include AVC-Intra 100, DV, and DVCPRO. Today's HC1602 hardware will be upgradable to these new CODECs through user-applied software patches making the HC1602 platform future-safe and CODEC-ready. Available Development Tools and APIThe Ambrado CODEC SDK is designed to allow users to quickly bring up the HC1602 hardware and begin sending control commands and receive status feedback. A comprehensive CODEC software development kit provides fully-documented API for Linux OS, a complete range of video processing commands, plus straight-forward and easy-to-use programmer tools for controlling the ingest, transmission, and decoding of high-quality HD video streams.
