Ambrado™ SuperRES™ Video Processing System

The Ambrado SuperRES System is a hardware-based solution for super-resolution video processing designed to serve as an upconversion platform for interlaced and progressive scan videos. It is an ideal solution for content aggregation companies, TV broadcasting studios, post production facilities, and content archival departments. SuperRES interfaces with digital and analog input source so it can seamlessly integrate into common video production workflows.

What is Super-Resolution?

Super-Resolution (SR) is a technique that enhances the resolution of an image. Using the sub-pixel shifts between multiple low resolution images of the same scene, Ambrado SuperRES creates an improved resolution image fusing information from all low resolution images. The resulting higher resolution images are better quality of the original content.

How SuperRES Works

Ambrado SuperRES technology utilizes a three-stage approach applying multiple processing algorithms to produce the best-quality results.

  1. Smart Interpolation - SuperRES uses a proprietary interpolation with non-uniform mesh. This process implements a weighted image enhancement which uses different weight coefficients for different mesh nodes to improve visual quality of interpolated images.
  2. Precise Motion Estimation - This is a multiple step process which includes a custom high-quality search criteria, a proprietary motion analysis scheme, quarter pixel precision, background/foreground separation, and combining groups of pixels into objects for processing.
  3. Accurate frame reconstruction - The final stage utilizes the following:
    • Interpolated frame
    • Motion compensation from neighbour frames
    • Interpolation of non-compensated pixels from compensated and basic pixels
    • Middle-median time-filter
    • Adapted spatial filter
